Saw this as as result of reading Slashdot comments. The six minute
Youtube video at the bottom of the page is well worth a look, even if
you don't think you're interested in 2D physics.

I particularly liked when the friction of the blocks is adjusted, and
the "climbing snakes". Available for Linux, amongst other OSes, but not
as a package in Ubuntu's multiverse (non-free) respository.
