Odd that it should exist at all if a user with home directory /home/clive was deleted? > Would like to know what has happened even if I can't get data back. Well, /var/log on the machine might show something around the time you deleted user `Comment', e.g. auth.log having some entry to do with sudo and deleting the user. Haven't got any other ideas.
