I used to have problems using dd to copy an image because if the new card 
isn't identical to the old one (eg the new card is a few bytes smaller), then 
the dd fails.

I now use Etcher (see https://etcher.io/[1] ) to copy images to and from SD 
Cards and haven't seen any problems recently (the first release was a bit 
buggy, but it gets regular updates).
