Hi Terry, > > sudo apt-get update > > sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -u > > because I had assumed that dist-upgrade was for new versions of the > distro (and so do many others if the internet comments are parsed).
No, but the name's a bit misleading. I think its better logic was initially aimed at that task on Debian, but Ubuntu has a particular command to upgrade between releases now. > I see that reading the latest man page for apt-get, that it also does > a better job of sorting out dependancies. Yes. I never used plain `apt-get upgrade' when I was running Ubuntu. > Anyway, I ran your incantation and it fixed the problem with Chromium. Good. > One thing, man apt-get doesn't list a -u here. What is it for? It's not a new option. https://manned.org/apt-get.8 says -u, --show-upgraded Show upgraded packages; Print out a list of all packages that are to be upgraded. But https://manned.org/apt-get/7ce43a70, which is a different version, doesn't list it, so perhaps Ubuntu have mucked with it recently. My fingers just know to type it. Next time there are things to upgrade, you might want to try with and without to see the difference.
