I know little about audio under Linux, but does your package manager log every install and update so you can look to see what changed between "it was definitely working then" and "first noticed it broken yesterday"? That might give a clue, or help Googling for recent activity by others with the same problem. It's also possible you installed the breakage a while ago, but only rebooted so it took effect recently.
