Hi, I stumbled on these projects a few weeks ago, and they've sat in my browser's tabs ever since. I still haven't had time to investigate them further than a skim of the web pages, but I thought I'd pass them on to the list as interesting to Linux and open-source users.
1. Crosspoint Reader is replacement firmware for some ebook hardware devices which aims to give a better UI, faster performance, keep improving, etc. Like replacing Windows on that Curry's laptop with Ubuntu. When browsing the supported devices, I noticed one which had magnets so it could stick to the back of a compatible mobile phone, giving an epaper backscreen, similar to the two-screen mobile some of you may recall Natalie having many years ago. https://crosspointreader.com 2. OPDS is a standard for a reader to learn about a collection of books. Crosspoint Reader supports it, and you can run Mayberry to serve your collection of books to your devices, or others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Publication_Distribution_System ‘Mayberry is a network of self-hosted public library branches. You keep your books on your own computer. A shared catalog lets readers discover your branch. Downloads happen through encrypted tunnels. Nobody sees your IP. Nobody tracks what you read.’ — https://joinmayberry.com 3. A public library of books using OPDS is Common Stacks. https://commonstacks.com -- Cheers, Ralph. -- Next meeting: Online, Jitsi, Tuesday, 2026-09-01 20:00 Check to whom you are replying Meetings, mailing list, IRC, ... https://dorset.lug.org.uk New thread, don't hijack: mailto:[email protected]
