Just checked the Update Manager and I had the Automation Maintenance box
ticked so it should be removing old kernal files.
It is set to check daily but not to update automatically. It will then
check in 6hrs. I do not ave the laptop (or PC0 on all the time; only
when needed so it cold be on/of 5 or 6 times a day (like today!).
Will now look at the other suggestions.
Clive
PS I have a notification of a lot of updates(17 most small Kb size but
some larger Mb ones and another Kernal one!) but will not do them till
I have made more room.

Hi Clive,
Tried the command as suggested and got:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 50 not to upgrade.
...
Running /Mint 22.3 /so will try Ralph's suggestions next.
My suggestion may do no better than Tim H's given the above.
I've poked about a bit for help specific to Linux Mint...
https://linuxmint-user-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/mintupdate.html#kernel-updates
gives the command to identify the version of the running kernel, and
says how kernel versions can be removed in the Update Manager. This is
probably the easiest window-clicking thing to try first.
https://www.morgandavis.net/content/uploads/2025/10/clean-up-old-linux-kernels.webp
is an option apparently found in the Update Manager's Preferences to
remove obsolete kernels each week, but it's turned off by default.
Could be worth looking for this in your Mint version to turn it on.
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2026/08/linux-mint-deletes-old-kernels-automatically
has news of an Update Manager change for Mint to remove old kernels over
time. But that probably hasn't reached you yet.
