I suspect that it is a culture of thinking that this is a field that you can
make easy money in.  Afterall, Microsoft and others advertise how easy it is
to build applications.  Many kids think that this means it's a way to make a
ton of money and do very little work for it.  Combine this with the access
that the Internet provides to sample code and you find that most people can
develop a basic application with very little work.  Unfortunately, this is
resulting in an even lazier workforce that cannot even work up the energy to
do a Google search to find some sample code!
