Hi, Not to promote, but have you tried DevExpress XPO?
It is the great DAL and BLL implementation with considering the performance. It support paging, optimistic concurrency, many database engine. It not using datatable in their internal collection but they use their own XPCollection and later we can use for binding to standard datasource. I just try it in my production. I don't have the result since collected data is just few but in teory and simulation, i believe it can cope 5-6 digit of data with no much different than 3-4 digit.
