.NET framework and all .NET related languages are still developing and
enhancing. I remember I was really amazed when .NET 2.0 was released with
all those beautiful new classes and functionality.
But time came and .NET 2.0 is still in use now, but obsolete :). Things like
LinQ are really amazing new features and help developers even more than
ever.
Processing power is quite good for high level languages like C# or VB.NET.
Quite frankly, I know many HLL languages that never can't run faster than
.NET languages...
.NET is very popular so yes, professionals are well valued

There is a huge area of jobs for .NET experts. It doesn't matter if you are
webmaster, programmer, XAML designer or just tester, you will always find a
job :)
