Hello! As you may know we now have to prepare a communication campaign for March, after the new release is out. If you have access to our private web section, you should have read the page “Organizing communication campaigns”:

Anyway I'm going to summarize a bit below. The campaign ============ Everyone can participate into this campaign and, to avoid to have too many visitors rushing at our site in the same time, to avoid contacting the same website authors twice or more, to avoid posting on the same sites, we need to coordinate. I propose the following list of coordinators per language, some of you have already accepted: * Benheng for Chinese * Denis for Dutch * Elisa for Portuguese * Jean-Michel for French * Lars for Swedish * Luca for Italian * Marian for Romanian * Richard for Spanish and English * Sergey for Russian and German if he can rely on his students or collaborators I would like to add Jay or Marija for Serbian and Alex for Ukrainian but, unfortunately, they seem to be very busy since 2-3 months… Before you get worrying about this augmented responsibility in the project ;), let me tell you that I do not expect so much work from you – but of course if you're highly motivated you can spend nights in promoting our project :p. The different ways I identified to make people know our work are the following: 1. Searching the Internet for articles speaking of Linux and kids and post comments introducing DoudouLinux as an interesting alternative. 2. Listing tech-related blogs or online magazines that you regularly read and contact the authors or create an account to post an article. 3. Searching the Internet for software / distros directories and apply for adding DoudouLinux. 4. Searching for Linux forums, especially Debian forums, and post a message about us. 5. Searching the Internet for Torrents/download websites and propose to include DoudouLinux. You're not asked to use all these possibilities :), just do what you can and what you feel comfortable with. Please also make an intensive use of our bookmark sharing tool (http://bookmarks.doudoulinux.org/) to keep track of all the interesting websites you're posting on or applying for an article. You can register our online tool without the need for account validation, so this is incredibly simple! What to tell? ============= I recall you that we have a template promotion article – that still needs updating – if you're lacking of inspiration (see http://www.doudoulinux.org/web/english/tell-the-world/communication-supports/article/template-promotion-article). I can also propose you a template comment to post on pages speaking about Linux and kids (but not about us!): ------------ We have launched a new kid's Linux during last summer. Its name is DoudouLinux (http://www.doudoulinux.org/) and its main goals are the following: * be as easy to use as a gaming console * provide as much kid oriented apps as possible (currently around 50) * drive small children into mastering computer use from age 2 * be natively in kids language, we are currently supporting 13 languages and providing 6 additional demo languages * be simple for Dad and Mum too (no administration, no updates – it's read-only system, no naughty web sites – thanks to web content filtering) Well we propose you to give it a try and let us know ;). Thank you in advance. ------------- Please do not give too much technical information in your communications. Remember that we want to be simple to use as ABC, so our communication should reflect this simplicity, even while targeting a very technical site. Why organizing and how? ======================= As written on the private pages: “We need to coordinate campaigns because too many visitors also means too many downloads, which then leads to slower server response time then eventually to server crash due to workload… We don’t want this!”. So I propose we get organized this way: 1. If you're interested in spreading DDL, reply to this message telling “Yes I will!” 2. Start sharing interesting websites with coordinators, on this mailing list or using private mails at your convenience, don't forget to record them on our bookmarking tool! 3. Identify high traffic websites and post on this list your intention to publish or have something published on them and when, you can use VisualizeTraffic to evaluate site popularity (http://www.visualizetraffic.com/) 4. Coordinators then have to coordinate (on this list of course) to avoid publication collisions on high traffic websites Of course coordinators can start by contacting the other contributors for their language in order to motivate them and have a larger work force ;). Then, well, wait for me to publish the new web stats and download figures to contemplate the results ;). You can ask for an account on our online real-time traffic analyzer if you want to monitor our website traffic on a daily basis (http://stats.doudoulinux.org/). Final words =========== I hope you'll be very numerous to want the world know our work and I hope that we'll reach the number of 20,000 downloads before the end of April ;) (hem, we just reached 13,000 today…). Especially you know that I'd like Spanish speaking countries to adopt our work, I'd like China to show the way in Eastern Asia and, more generally, all the CD's that are little downloaded to be much more downloaded! We also have to launch our new official languages for which a good work was achieved. Remember that achieving a good or even a perfect work is quite useless if nobody knows… This is why we need a communication month :).
