Hello,

As mentioned in a former newsletter, we've been discussing with Elisa the need
of redesigning our download page and download links (in the page header, above
the side menu and in the homepage body). The idea is to have people download
the CD as quickly as possible and to avoid them wondering about what to do to
get DDL. Moreover, as we are adding more and more languages, our download table
is becoming quite difficult to read.

Currently all download links are redirecting visitors to the download page,
which proposes all downloads available with a large explanation text. What we
discussed with Elisa is the following:

* the download link could just propose to start the download (in the language
of the page you are visiting of course)

* the download page could be split into a short page and a detailed page, the
short page would just propose the ISO/USB images of the page language, the
detailed one the full download table with all languages and versions
(officially supported and demo versions).

As we want our visitors to be able to look for CD's of their language even if
there is no web page in their language, all download links should be
accompanied with a link to the detailed download page. Note that we may not
need the short download page if download links are offering to download the CD
and/or the USB version. In my mind there are then currently 3 alternatives:

1. Download links are redirecting to a simple download page with the CD/USB
images of the page language only (English CD/USB in the English pages)
   * Links say “Download in LANG now” → the short page, “Other languages” → the
detailed page
   * The short page just contains 2 links to the ISO/USB image files + one link
to the detailed page + few explanations
   * The detailed page is somewhat similar to the current download page with
full tables

2. Download links allow to directly download the CD/USB images of the page
language
   * Links say “Download the CD in LANG now” → the CD file, “Download the USB
key in LANG now” → the USB file, “Other languages” → the detailed page
   * The detailed page is somewhat similar to the current download page with
full tables

3. Download links allow to directly download *only* the CD image of the page
language
   * Links say “Download the CD in LANG now” → the CD file, “Other media or
languages” → the detailed page
   * The detailed page is mostly similar to the current download page with full
tables but the USB image file of the page language should be put alone on top
of the page

The main drawback of the latest 2 solutions is that there is no explanations
with the direct download links. People who don't know how to write an ISO won't
know what to do with this file. The main drawback of the first solution is that
visitors still have a step before actually downloading: the short download page.

I'd now like to have your opinion so please let me know your feeling.

Cheers,
JM.
