Hello, As you may have noticed, we still haven't set any official stable release and are using ugly numbering to tell about our releases :). As we will switch to Debian Squeeze for the release after (2011-08), I think this is the opportunity to set our first official stable release (which would then be 2011-05) since nearly all softwares will change of version number in the release after.
The constraint for us is to provide the necessary updates of this stable version until a new stable version is out, supposing that awful bugs are found in the future. However this support will not exceed 9 to 12 months since Debian Lenny will not be supported upstream longer than this. Moreover we should publish a new official stable release based on Squeeze before Lenny's end of life (2011-11 if not 2011-08 in my plans). Note that this will also have small consequences on our website: all the download pages need to be deeply revised. So the question is now what name for our first stable release? My idea for the future is to use the travels of our characters around the world to set the name of our stable releases. For example Moscow-Beijing, Caracas-Rio, Tunis-Abidjan, Paris-Bucarest (no allusion to the bad stories of the last summer between France and Romania of course ;) ), or we may use region names instead of towns. The problem is that we have no story right now on our CD… So no travel to be named :(. NB: if you've never heard about our plans for CD graphic design, the idea is to beautify our CD with draws of our characters living stories in various regions of the world, to make children discover our world. As a result, for our first stable release, I propose to use a geographical name related to the far history of our earth: Gondwana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondwana). Shortly this is one of the very first super-continents that has existed on earth, from which derived all the south hemisphere continents plus India and the Arabic peninsula. I like this name because this really shows that this is only the beginning of a long story ;). Please tell me your feelings and if alternative ideas are arising. Cheers, JM. _______________________________________________ Doudoulinux-dev mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/doudoulinux-dev
