Hello there! The new release is in its starting blocks, we're all impatient to put it online – I hope so! But this is not the end of the project of course, as the release name indicates ;). So I'd like us to do several important things during the coming 3-4 months:
* This month, let's tell about our work on the Internet to have more children and parents discover DDL during the summer holidays. You're all invited to write articles, contact authors, speak in meetings, in your own language (oh yes, I can only speak English and French, so you have to do this for me!) * We need to organize the graphics affair this month too. I propose that all the ideas are simply put into tickets on Redmine, then we'll organize them in tasks, sub-tasks, depending tasks, when, etc. * The release after 2011-08 will be based on Debian Squeeze instead of Lenny. There are already many identified tasks (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/projects/doudoulinux-cd/issues/gantt). I invite you to browse the tickets and try to find where you can help. There are not only technical tasks, for example you can test new software for inclusion or search for greatest hits of classical music on MIDI files sites (or other sites for other music styles, but due to restrictive copyright laws for both authors and interprets, this is quite difficult…). * We want to have DDL run on ARM processors for September. Gérald and I will work on this important port. ARM technology will do what the OLPC project could not do: provide a 100$ computer. * Prepare the Google Code-in contest that may take place in October-November, if it is renewed. We need to define what tasks could be achieved by teenagers (13-18 years old), technical or not. * I'd like to put more digital content on the CD. Please try to find children songs, traditional music, traditional stories, fables, traditional characters, drawings, anything that could not take too much disk space while bringing a cultural content. Web links wanted! We first need to list what could be added and then make it license-compliant, which may mean re-writing or re-drawing. To conclude, I now think that our project should better stress the cultural dimension computers can have. This is why I'm willing to add digital contents and this is also why I'd like to introduce in the CD a story with our characters. Moreover easily sharing and producing digital contents is simply what the Internet revolution has brought to each of us. DoudouLinux can then be an introduction to the Internet revolution! All the best! JM. _______________________________________________ Doudoulinux-dev mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/doudoulinux-dev
