Hello! The past two weeks saw activity mainly on our website, on ARM and on Debian derivatives. We now have less than a month to publish the next development release 2011-11. If you want your work be included, it's time to wake up!
All the best, JM. PS: if you think that I forgot to mention an important news, feel free to answer this mail with your scoop! Team ===== * Sysinit asked to join the Chinese team. Welcome to our project! Organization =========== * If you don't know how to help the project, read the latest mail about next releases :) [1]. * I started to register Debian bugs on behalf of our project [2]. This is one of the topics that were discussed when the Debian folks asked us to join their derivatives effort [3]. This is a good way to show how our project contributes to its parent distro. A dedicated mail will come to explain how you can report your own bugs to Debian too, while registering them for our project. * I disabled anonymous comments on Redmine since this lead to increasing spam [4]. We now have to make up our minds: should users keep using Redmine or go back to Gna to report issues? Gna allows anonymous reports with undisclosed email address, I think it's dealing better with spam too. * I took part to the latest IRC meeting of Debian Derivatives [5]. Debian folks talked about the tools they're writing to automatically extract derivatives patches applied to the Debian base. To ease their work we have to setup a source packages repository for Debian packages (we currently only have a binary packages one). * By the way I'm still looking forward to welcoming volunteers willing to participate into DDL IRC meetings. I think we can have short weekly meetings in western Europe evening and a larger monthly meeting matching all the world timezones (eg. beginning of afternoon for western Europe). * Redmine: there are still tickets to be moved from our former project management software Gna [6]. Please move/close the tickets you're owning, unless their history is huge. CDROM ====== * Gérald has already written (French) notes about how to have DDL on ARM [1]. He suggested to apply to get ARM hardware from Genesi [2] (this is donated hardware, for projects that are porting Linux on ARM). Hope we'll get at least 2 devices :). * I rearranged our list of tasks for 2011-11 again because we're late, as usual! Yes we'll now talk about any “artistic” work, may it be pure creation or “just” compositions of existing artworks with complying licenses. * Sergey had a deeper look at Gutenberg.org [1] while a visitor (Remy) posted about Librivox.org [2]. Of course we won't find everything we need in every language, but this is a good start point and I'll show you very soon what we've already started to do with my children :). [1] http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/418 [2] http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/438 Website ======= * Translator's FAQ updated due to new article about website work copy [1]. * Sergey proposed for proofreading an article around the tutorial video Ehtele made [2]. Xavier posted the URL of the video he made several months ago in order to find a way to use it on our website [3]. * New news about our first Portuguese pages, written by Sergey and translated in several languages [4]. Not all published yet. * New French article from me: “Site web officiel et copie de travail”. * New Italian articles from Salvatore: “Repositorio dei pacchetti Debian”, “Scaricare le compilazioni giornaliere”. * Many new Malay articles from PureTech who may have broken his record of articles/week :) : “Aplikasi multimedia”, “Repositori pakej Debian”, “Laman web rasmi dan salinan kerja”, “Tetapan tetikus”, “Tetapan bunyi”, “Tetapan skrin”, “Laporkan masalah perkakasan”, “Menggunakan pencetak”. * There are a lot of obsolete screenshots in our pages. Sergey started to discuss about updating them [5]. Note that I don't mean to capture each screenshot in the CD language, but to replace the obsolete images with the latest English/French/etc. version to lower the workload. * I fixed duplicated links in PDF download tables, as reported by Sergey [6]. It was a success but unfortunately, due to recent netbooks presumably, DDL did not work as expected… * Salvatore launched the translation of our Wikipedia article into English [2]. The idea is to split the effort among several translators who understand Latin languages. Unfortunately we're still lacking of volunteers :(. * Salvatore is still monitoring our DistroWatch ranking [3].
