Hello, > Why using Linux Mint ? (this is a simple question... ) > And not the Ubuntu, Debian or OpenSUSE installer ? (Mint is based on > Ubuntu...)
Why not? :p Mint is a community project based on Debian as we are, while having a very large audience (some say more than Ubuntu nowadays). Gérald proposed to reuse their work so I took a look and found that they are trying to make things simple as we do (indeed there are other tools from Mint that we could/should reuse). The Debian installer is too complicated for normal users. Ubuntu I don't know I must say, I haven't tested for a while! If someone wants to propose something based on the Ubuntu installer, why not, let's compare both! > > Is it possible to use some of those features in the installer for > DDL ? So yes, why not include the possibility of your last article on > the blog: > http://blog.doudoulinux.org/post/2013/01/19/DoudouLinux-ISO-relocalization This is one of my ideas ;). The Mint iso-relocalization tool is currently in its very early stages: command line only. I'd like to reuse the first screens of their installer for a graphical relocalization tool (fed up with the French keyboard in Belgium? :p ). Maybe we can collaborate with Mint on this topic. Any volunteer on the list? This is Python/Gtk/Qt code quite easy to understand despite the number of lines. > And GParted is not > scriptable :( > http://charlesmartinreid.com/wiki/Gparted#Scripting_with_Gparted In this case GParted is only used when the user wants to graphically shrink windows to a reasonable size (zero? :D ). The installer is using a Python bonding, python-parted, to script low level disk operations. > I love testing ! My little Laly is waiting the evolution ;) > If you want I can test it ASAP (first with a virtual machine, second > with a real machine !) Good news, with Richard who wrote me, we already have two testers :). I think I can publish a dailybuild with the new installer by the end of the week, say on Thursday/Friday. -- Cheers, JM.
