I don't know if you could use this or not, because it's written in Python and 
uses PyQT, but I thought I'd let you know about it. I sincerely hope your 
project can make use of it.

I wrote a media player for children. Totem, Banshee and all the others are 
developed for adults and are too confusing for children. So, I wrote the Kids' 
Media Player. Basically, it allows a child to navigate using pictures instead 
of words. For audio, it displays the cover art (from cover.jpg in their album 
directory or by running coverlovin right now) and allows them to click the 
cover art to display a list of songs. In video, it uses ffmpegthumbnailer to 
create video thumbnails of all their videos. If they click a video, it 
immediately starts fullscreen playback. Q quits and spacebar pauses/restarts.
