I like the idea, it is exactly the kind of software we are looking for.
I'm also looking for a player able to show audio/video playlists but
easy to use, which yours does. Currently we are using totem which is a
bit easier than other players, I mean there are less options in menus
and may sound less confusing for children (and parents!). But it doesn't
do all we need. That said, to me your player is still lacking a volume
knob and some graphic design, to make it nicer. I don't know if we can
help you on this topic, some people here have the skills but maybe not
the time…

Also, despite your player is written with music albums in mind, we may
find a way to use it in DoudouLinux. As you guess, we don't provide
children with albums but want to open them to culture. We already ship
DoudouLinux with some classical music pieces and few links to online
jazz music. As it is possible to provide our own cover images in your
player, we should be able to show our digital contents in a fancy way,
which is not currently the case. By the way, how does the player find
albums and videos? Entire scan of user's home? Fixed sub-directory?

Notes: a nice feature would be to be able to link an “album” to its
Wikipedia page when it exists, for children who can read (or parents).
In our case, the album would indeed be the composer or main interpret.
