Hello,

Due to a pirate attack, our web server is totally down. Our server provider has
been seriously and repeatedly attacked during the past 48h, they are currently
reinstalling all the servers that were intruded. Unfortunately the pirate also
destroyed some data and our provider has to restore them using forensic
techniques (they do not backup our data, this is likely a paying option).

Our website might then need time to be available again. This is currently
difficult to have information about the restoration process, so I can't tell
more. They proposed me to build another server from scratch, using our own
backup data. Unfortunately we don't have a full backup of our website,
especially because of the nearly 100 GB of live CD and DVD. I fear we spend
much time in rebuilding a partial-only website.

Of course the only solution to not encounter this situation again in the future
would be to have a full backup of our website. Either we pay for having this
backup directly by our provider (but this wouldn't prevent down times to
reinstall servers from scratch), or we manage to get another server in a
datacenter, that would be a full mirror of our main server – it may be
complicated to setup. We'd need to change of DNS manager too, because our DNS
administration interface is currently down too, but this is a little change.
Anyway, currently none of these solutions is possible…

Cheers,
JM.
