Hello!

This week we had requests for starting 3 new languages: Latvian, Lithuanian and
Norwegian. We also started to discuss on the Debian derivatives mailing list
and had DoudouLinux added to the official derivatives. Finally the logo and
mascot contest is definitively closed: the winner is Gnokii.

All the best,
JM.

PS: if you think that I forgot to mention an important news, feel free to
answer this mail with your scoop!

Team
=====

* 7 new contributors proposed to help the project for translations:

  - Mantas Kriaučiūnas asked to start Lithuanian on Transifex
  - Helijs asked to start Latvian on Transifex
  - Arvis Lācis, Lafriks, Usinss and Stendec asked to join the Latvian team
  - Dᴀᴠıᴅ ᴊᴀᴍıssᴇᴎ (Bomullsauen) asked to start Norwegian on Transifex

Some of them are already at work: welcome to our project!

Our project is about to have started 10 new languages since the latest release
Gondwana in mid June: Czech, Danish, German, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian,
Malay, Norwegian, Portuguese (Pt ad Br), Telugu. We should then officially
support at least 25 languages for the coming Gondwana update, quite a bunch :).

Organization
===========

* We are now officially listed as a Debian Derivative (see
http://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Census). This is the result of discussions
that started in June with Paul Wise from Debian. We are also officially
proposed to revive the orphaned Debian Jr. project (see thread
http://lists.debian.org/debian-derivatives/2011/07/msg00018.html). We will then
work during the coming months to adapt our code to ease its integration into
Debian. The idea is to make Debian Jr. kind of code base for DDL.

I believe this is a new important step in the growth of our project :).

* Mailing lists: please *register* to our sub-lists as soon as possible so that
we can switch the traffic to these dedicated lists :). I don't send mails to
the dev list anymore if they are targeting another list and I invite you to do
the same!

* Redmine: there are still tickets to be moved from our former project
management software Gna. Please move the tickets you're owning, unless they're
history is huge.

Translations
============

* Translations were submitted on Transifex for Italian, Latvian, Polish and
Brazilian Portuguese (Lorenzo, Helijs, Lafriks, Filar, Brunox69).

* Joe discussed with the Transifex folks to have a bug fixed. Some commented
strings are considered as requiring translation (see
http://trac.transifex.org/ticket/769). I understood it is now fixed but I still
need to update several resources to make translation status correct for all
resources/languages.

CDROM
======

* Gérald and I started to discuss about the better way to make the DDL port to
ARM.

Graphics
========

* OCAL contest: the final vote has been published. Gnokii is the winner for
both logo and mascot (see
https://mail.gna.org/public/doudoulinux-dev/2011-07/msg00027.html).

Website
=======

We should reach 100,000 visitors this week-end :).

* New Italian articles thanks to Salvatore: “Suggerimenti e trucchi”.

* We need a news to announce Malay, German, Telugu and Latvian translations.

Communication
=============

* Several publications lead to an increased number of visitors:
  - http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2011/07/teaching-your-child-some-linux-try.html
  - http://www.open-news.lv/6985-doudoulinux-lokalizesana-latviskosana
  -
http://www.taringa.net/posts/linux/11843109/DoudouLinux_-distro-para-los-mas-pequenos-de-la-casa.html

Plus many Russian articles.

Support
=======

* We received a bug report concerning video failing to get configured on recent
hardware (see https://gna.org/support/?2774). A fix is on the road.
