Hello!

Gondwana 1.1 is out and thousands of visitors are coming :). It seems to make
more noise than all the previous releases, which is great news. I invite you to
participate to the noise by posting or contacting authors. There is no reason
to not tell the world about our good work. And this will not prevent us from
continuing our efforts to make the better children OS ever offered, as you'll
read!

All the best,
JM.

PS: if you think that I forgot to mention an important news, feel free to
answer this mail with your scoop!

Team
=====

* 4 people joined the team on Transifex this week:

  - Sławomir asked to join the Polish team
  - Tranzistors asked to join the Latvian team
  - Abuyop asked to join the Malay team
  - WilsonMint asked to join the Portuguese team

Tranzistors and WilsonMint are already at work. As Malay CD translation is
done, I proposed Abuyop to proofread translations on the CD, then help PureTech
on the website.

Welcome to our project!

Organization
===========

* Mirroring of DDL on ddl.be is a success! Our servers didn't seem to go down
while serving more than 2.5 TB of files during 3-4 days as of writing (3,700
CD's). I recall that our mirror is transparently selected from the new download
links of our website. We have detailed and accurate stats on CD numbers
(CD/USB, DDL version, language, etc.) on our official web stats
(http://stats.doudoulinux.org/). Just have a look at the menus “Visitors →
Custom variables” and “Actions → Download”.

* I'm experimenting Torrent files to download DDL [1]. This is not currently
strictly necessary but it may become necessary in the future. It's better to be
ready :). If you have the opportunity please participate and let few DDL CD's
available for upload and report us about clients downloading through torrents.

* Redmine: there are still tickets to be moved from our former project
management software Gna. Please move/close the tickets you're owning, unless
their history is huge.

Translations
============

* I'm sorry you did so much translation work during the past 2 weeks that I
feel really lazy when it comes to list all the people that worked on so many
languages :). Of course there was a reason: Gondwana 1.1! Congratulation for
your huge work that brings still more credibility to our project.

* In the meantime, Flavio Demenezes lead the Brazilian team to reach the
amazing figure of 100% translated on Transifex [1]. Congratulations to the
Brazilian team!

CDROM
======

* Gondwana 1.1 is out [1]. As said before it's already been downloaded for
2.5TB / 3,700 CD. Most downloaded languages [2] are English, French, Spanish,
Russian. Then come German, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese.

* Very good news from the ARM port: Gérald succeeded in automating nearly all
the build process of Debian Linux on ARM (armel). Things are nearly ready to
start the DDL port. Another good news is that armhf, a more recent and faster
port of Linux on ARM, may be soon available with 3D graphics.

* Gaurav started to compare parental controls tools to limit the hours of
computer use [3]. He has already rejected 2 candidate solutions over the 4
selected ones. His work should be integrated in next Gondwana update.

* Gaurav is also looking at an annoying bug in TBO [4]. This application is
part of our development version 2011-08.

Graphics
========

* You've now seen the new banner on our website.

* I have to wake up our drawers who have started hibernating long before winter
has come ;). We're still waiting for additional CD artwork, website redesign,
new logo integration, and even an official announce on our website for the end
of the logo contest :(. Maybe they should move to the south hemisphere to
escape their lethargy :p.

Website
=======

* Two new English articles (from me): “Download dailybuilds”, “Debian package
repository”. In a near future they'll replace our badly looking pages of the
Debian repository and the dailybuilds. Moreover, they'll be easier to translate.

* Many new Malay articles thanks to PureTech – who is living near equator (this
is the only explanation I found to his high activity :p): “Nota keluaran”,
“Kawalan Ibu bapa”, “Permainan pendidikan”, “Aplikasi untuk bekerja”, “Menu
Aktiviti”, “Panduan Ringkas”.

* Sergey proposed the Russian versions of my English articles for publication
(there is a micro-climate in south center Siberia, who would have guessed?):
“Скачать промежуточные версии”, “Репозитарий пакетов Debian”.

* Help wanted to guide Flavio in Spip, he just asked me to start writing pages
in pt_BR. Maybe Salvatore because he wanted to start pt_PT pages soon?

Communication
=============

Concerning Wikipedia, the French page is now accepted and just requires minor
fixes (glitches, details).

Success is coming with this release and 10,000 visitors in 3-4 days :). A lot
of website are telling about our new release, the most noticeable ones to me:

* the so famous DistroWatch [1] in which we're ranking well as Xavier and
Salvatore noticed [2][3]
* opennet.ru [4]
* the also famous Freshmeat (I wrote the news) [5]
* linux-news.org (thanks to Salvatore who contacted Riccardo/Linuxaria) [6]
* linuxin.dk (thanks to Joe who wrote the news) [7]
* osworld.pl [8]
* open-news.lv (thanks to Armands aka. Helijs from our Latvian team) [9]
* under-linux.org (pt_BR ou pt_PT, não se) [10]
* PureTech's blog [11]
* oschina.net [12]
* Linux2today (Arabic) [13]
* creationn.wordpress.com (Romanian) [14] whose author asked to interview
Marian, hope he'll accept :)
