Category: XMPP Group: None Status: Closed Resolution: Fixed >Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Florian Thiel (florianthiel) Assigned to: Bjoern (ornis) Summary: Saros does not detect missing IBB support in XMPP servers Initial Comment: Some XMPP servers (like jabber.ccc.de) do not support IBB. When Saros tries to share projects through IBB, it hangs indefinitely. Saros should detect capabilities upon connection and at least warn the user. to reproduce (it is not clear why Saros thinks it cannot use Jingle in this case. Your mileage may vary): [email protected] (host) [email protected] (is invited). Both Eclipses run on the same machine. (inviting [email protected] uses Jingle for no apparent reason (also on same machine, same configuration). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Bjoern (ornis) Date: 2011-03-03 12:05 Message: Added packet listener to perform progress indication while IBB transfer is going on. When invited, the wizards displays a warning info about slowness including a throughput info (for non tiny projects) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: hstaib (hstaib) Date: 2010-02-26 07:09 Message: If we are forced to use IBB the speed can only be improved if Smack is improved. Smack sends IBB packets as Message stanzas and it seems that the XMPP server slows down the transmission of these packets. Maybe it's not the same if IQ stanzas would be used. IBB specification also recommends a mode where every IBB packet is acknowleged by the receiver. This would be slow as well but maybe the XMPP server wouldn't set a delay for every packet of 3 seconds. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Christopher Oezbek (coezbek) Date: 2010-02-26 07:01 Message: yeah we should file a bug for the incorrect progress bar. Is there any other way, we could avoid this slow connection? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: hstaib (hstaib) Date: 2010-02-26 06:46 Message: Can't reproduce this error. Tried it with 3 Saros on jabber.ccc.de. Sending data through IBB is incredibly slow because there is a delay of 3 seconds between ech IBB packet but it does'nt hang indefinitly. The progress bar doesn't show any progress but if you use the debugger you can see that there are incoming IBB packets. Note: an XMPP Server doesn't have to know anything about IBB. Its just about sending IQ stanzas and/or messages between the clients. Should we create a new ticket for the incorrectly working progress bar? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=843359&aid=2958669&group_id=167540 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
