Hi all,
I've just hacked together a piece of code that uses XmlHttp to request
and install searches on-the-fly.
The only problem I see so far is that search XMLs have to be valid XML
to be persisted to disk properly. The ones with my name in them failed,
for example ( needs to be replaced by ä).
The syntax is:
httpinst http://www.winwonk.com/swe/searches/sdg.xml
To install my Swedish sdg search. After downloading and saving the file
into searches, the command asks whether to reload the toolbar or not.
I've tested it with some of the searches at Peter Heath's site [1], and
they seem to be OK as well.
So, I just thought I'd check with you guys before comitting anything:
- Is it a reasonable requirement that searches are well-formed (easy to
test using IE's default stylesheet)?
- Is the name OK? I started out with "install", but that felt too
generic, and likely to collide with searches
- Is there an existing framework for adding intrinsic commands? I just
added another "if(t.search("httpinst ") == 0)" in def(), but if there's
a cleaner way, I'd love to use it.
Cheers,
Kim
