I think most users don't need all 267 searches. Glenn says he only uses 10, and I think I use a maximum of 7 or 8, most of which I wrote myself. If somebody needs all the searches, maybe we should keep a separate allsearches.nsi installer based on John's optional installer where you can pick out the ones you want installed if not all. I just like the thought of on-demand installation. What's cool about this is that we can provide new searches instantly off the web, without having to distribute a new installer. Just put the xml on a web server, and it's available. Of course, the latest searches are already available from the CVS tree, but it's not very user-friendly (not that httpinst is either, probably...). > I know I probably sound like a broken record but isn't it > much much more logical just to install all the searches and find a way to > enable/disable them? Does this not ease a lot of the problems? Maybe it is... My line of thinking is that if users need to disable 250 searches to get what they want, maybe we shouldn't ship all of them in one package. But then again, the enable/disable functionality is badly needed anyway :) I think I've lost track of what we're discussing exactly, but I do think that we should trim the number of searches distributed with the default installation, and make the rest available as a separate download, as well as on-demand off the web.
