Mr. Norr, I have been using the Google Toolbar for several months now. After reading your column, I decided to try Dave's Quick Search Deskbar. I installed it on my desktop and my laptop, both running W2K. It worked great at first, but after a reboot, I noticed my System Tray looked different. Sure enough, My Norton AntiVirus icon was no longer there. I removed Quick Search from the toolbar (I did not uninstall it) and rebooted and the NAV icon reappeared. This happened with both PCs, even though I have NAV 2000 on one and 2002 on the other. Further reboots with the bar turned on resulted in the NAV icon appearing (but as if autoprotection was disabled) and other icons disappearing.
I should say that, from what I could tell with my limited knowledge, NAV appeared to be working fine (even when showing as disabled, it was enabled). But, as much as I like using Dave's Quick Search Deskbar, I am guessing that having my System Tray take on a new appearance every time is not a good thing. I am truly sad that I am going to uninstall Dave's Deskbar. ...Thought you might want some feedback (as if you don't get enough already).
