Sarah,

If you're as lazy as I am, and don't want to figure out which searches
you actually use, qsfreq as Tom described below might work well for
you.  Just turn it on and leave it on for a week or so, then disable
all the unused searches with "qsfreq /disable_unused".  Internally,
qsfreq just renames search files from .xml to .disabled (or something
like that) to disable them.
