I can't tell you what size of engine is necessary--
my bird has a 100 hp rotary (now coming off of the plane for an updating and
fuel injection system)
However, there are electric t&b and DG etc which don't require vacuum, they
are even available in 2"faces (+-) Avionics today are practically weightless.
The only restriction is $$$$$$$---- however with the increased equipment, your
wallet will be lighter--- perhaps offsetting the weight gain.
