There are definitely huge problems trying to bring a US registered
homebuilt into Canada. The simple answer is no way. Since the FAA has
very different inspection requirements as well as some other minor
requirements TC will not allow the importing of homebuilts. At least this
was the story a few years ago.

I have dealt with both FAA and TC since I built my Dragonfly in Tennessee.
At the time I was on exchange with the USAF and I spent a few months
talking to FAA and TC to get permission to built a Canadian registered
homebuilt in the US. It was not simple and at the last moment the FAA
inspectors in Nashville refused to do the final inspection. So the
airplane was dissassembled and trailered to Ottawa, Canada. TC was not
much better- it took 3 months to get my paper work after the final
inspection.

Anyway good luck with your search. Before you buy talk to the local TC
inspectors and the local EAA chapter
