He can scarcely recognise his own face as he leans up against the dresser, peering
into the dirty broken mirror in front of him. He can barely even place a memory of
what he had looked like before, as all of his senses seem to be distant... and
irrelevant. He pulls a long razor from his pouch and begins to saw off chunks of his
unruly beard, letting the black puffs of hair fall onto the dresser below him.

**He had found himself submerged in some sort of thick liquid... It was like tree sap,
surrounding him, blinding him, filling his nose, his lungs, but he could still
breathe...**

The candle across the room flickered from the draft that sought its way through the
hole in the roof of his small cottage. He was only a day's worth of travel from his
former life, but he could not go back.

Marel. The name chimed in his head like the temple bell, bringing back more distant
memories... He put them aside.

**He had pulled himself out of the tree sap and it clung to him like the grasp of a
dragon's claw. It took all of his strength to stand, and when he did, he became aware
of two distinct presences before him. He could not see them. He could not hear them.
He could not smell them. But they were there...**

He rubs his hand along his newly trimmed beard. Yes, that looks more presentable, he
thinks, as he binds his hair behind his head in a pony tail. His face is scarred from
years of war. His jaw is wide. He has the face of a warrior, but his heart is of
something else, something intangible.

**Suddenly, the tree sap had rolled off of him, away from his eyes, out of his mouth,
his nose. As his vision cleared, he looked down to see that it was moving away from
him. He looked up at the two silvery creatures in front of him.**

The sword that swings at his side is there more out of force of habit than it is for
protection. He tries to think of how to use it but he cannot remember. All things
will return in due time, he assures himself.

**"You are Clen Thoran, son of Mordrid Thoran, Lord Marshall of the Islands of Mysts,"
they had said to him, "But you are not human. You time for change has come. Go now,
and find your way."**

He wishes now that he had asked them some questions. But it had made sense then.

**He had walked into the forest, naked, with batlike wings sprouting from his back.
Everything had been clear to him at that moment. His metamorphasis was complete.**
