SIGH The days went slowly bye and Carine lay unconscious in bed. Her body had been taken to the guard’s barracks and was watched over on a regular basis. When she woke up it was the middle of the night. “Where….where am I….what happened?” She tries to sit up immediately grabbing at her side and wincing at the sharp pain from the axe blow she took in the fight. Angus the guard she befriended was almost always at her side, and he was when she awoke. Quickly he grabbed her by the shoulders and laid her back down, “Carine it’s me Angus your at the barracks your safe,” he looks towards the open door of her room and yells out to anyone whom might hear, “She’s awake Carine’s awake get the doc.” Once she is settled back down he grabs a cup of water of the nightstand next to the bed with her body slightly propped up he gives her a drink which she takes eagerly for her throat was dry and scratchy from not talking or drinking in days. Carine was light-headed, and need to rest more but Angus thanked the gods that she finally awoke. Time slowly passed as Angus waited anxiously for the healer to come and along with him came Lani into the small room that was Carine’s room the last few days while she recovered. ‘ Lani had no intention of telling Carine about the state of Rue Denali, but alas Angus had told her during the wait. “What’s going on in here???” Lani said as she saw Carine struggling to get out of bed. The healer looked on with disbelief in his eyes as he rushed to Carine’s side, “CARINE ANDER lay back down you have busted open your side, you’re never going to heal if you don’t rest!!” He quickly starting digging through his pack for poultices and bandages to once again heal Carine’s side. Angus looked at Lani, “I apologize captain I told Carine about Rue and she insists on going in search of him to help.” Blood oozing again from the wound at her side Carine looks up at Lani, and in a weak raspy voice she bleeds with Lani, ”Captain you have to let me help Rue please.” Lani gave Carine a stern look, “First of all you will lay back down that’s an ORDER………secondly we are doing everything we can.” Carine slouched back down gripping at her side the healer was working to stop the bleeding, ”But it’s Rue my big brother I have to do something. What happened? I didn’t even see him there at the in that night.” Lani preceded to giver her details that even Angus did not know she watched as Carine turned ashen her expression one of complete fear and sorrow. Carine laid there and cried at what Lani was telling her she had never known Rue was even there, and it was making her sick. This did not last long though as the healer quickly ended the conversation, ”I am sorry captain but she needs her rest and this news is only hindering her healing. I will give her something to calm her down.” Lani nodded with an audible sigh giving Carine a reassuring look she turned without a word leaving the room. Angus hood stood back and watched the last few minutes looked at the healer, “I will keep a watch on her if that is ok?” the healer responded with a nod and, ”Make sure she gets some sleep……..with no disturbances.” Angus told him she would rest. The healer crushed up some herbs letting them seep in some water giving it to Carine to drink. He then propped her up slightly and told her to sleep. The healer was gone and Angus was sitting in a chair next to
the door watching silently as Carine cried herself to sleep the medicine slowly
taking affect quietly she mumbled as she started to fall asleep, “Rue…. I’m
sorry…..please be safe….please you’re my
f..a..m..i..l..y……….” |
