Brin sat within the study of Andor's large house, the house quiet this early in
the morning. Her ink quill scratched quickly over parchment. She'd taken to
spending nights up writing letters these days. She was getting better, slowly,
working hard at moving on with her life, but sleep still held desperately
lonely nightmares for her where she fruitlessly searched through the cold, dark
countryside for two crying babies ...

The quill stuttered on the parchment, leaving an ugly streak of black over the
clean paper. She sighed, lifting her dark red head upward, blinking as the
clocks gently chimed dawn. She sat back in the large leather chair that seemed
to dwarf her diminutive size. She and Andor were trying to pick up the pieces,
trying to build a foundation of love on the ruins of an old one.

It felt like Rue was dead. And for the most part he was. What he'd become had
sent the final blow to her heart. She'd tried to make Andor understand .. tried
to explain to him why he'd had such a strong hold on her despite everything
that had happened.

She'd been in love with a dream .. had built up a man that had never really
existed. Her dream Rue would have never told her he didn't love her .. would
have never hurt in the many ways he had .. would have never struck out at
Andor. She sighed again and ran a hand through her hair.

She wanted to get back to work. Physically he was healthy again. Sure, some of
her muscles had softened during the short months of her pregnancy, but she knew
in her heart that she needed to get back to something familiar, and with the
disarray the Guard was in now, they needed any and everyone that was committed.

Brin pulled out a fresh piece of parchment and began writing again.

To Lord Marshal Gerhardt Menan

My name is Brin Winter, and up until the beginning of last fall I was a guard
in Mysthaven. Due to .. unforeseen medical complications, i was forced to take
a leave of absence. Since said medical complications have been .. resolved, I
seek reinstatement in the guard. The only problem is that at the time of my
Leave, i had tendered a transfer order to Brookshire which never really came
through.

I'd be willing to take either Mysthaven or Brookshire, wherever i'm needed,
sir. I look forward to serving you and the crown.

Brin Winter

Better .. much better. Sanding it, she waited while it soaked the ink up and
then carefully rolled it up and tied it. Once daylight arrived she would ride
into town on Dee Dee and deposit it at the Lord Marshals office personally.
Besides, it would do her good to get out and blow the stink off her, as her
mother used to say.

She may not be able to find the girl she used to be, but she could definitely
start searching for the woman she would become. Gathering up her journal, and
leaving the rolled parchment on the desk she went upstairs and tiptoed quietly
into her and Andor's bedroom. She deposited the Journal somewhere safe and
dressed quickly in thick riding breeches and a wool tunic, then tiptoed back
out, heading downstairs to retrieve the parchment. Wrapping up carefully in
her cloak she headed out to go take care of horse Dee Dee.
