DA: "Good evening grubball fans, I am Dern Arnak
and with me is Westin Tarbral and welcome to Grubball Tonight. We have
scores from around the league including some sad news from Arankeep.
Hinterplodder Branth Perlegi, who has been having a decent season for the
Keepers, was killed earlier today in a collision with Vale backfieldsmen Trog
Thogmore and G'Rond Thalberost. The collision looked to be in retaliation
to the injury given to Vale hinterplodder Dalt the Common who left the game with
a severely injured eye. While the intent to injure was there, no one wants
something of this magnitude to occur. We send it now to the game earlier
today, which ended in a 0-0 tie."
Dorn: There's the toss, and Arnak comes up with
it,
but it's snatched away by Del the Silent and he tosses it back to Ruut Amdovek. Amdovek enters neutral ground and is immediately faced by Eldreck Gulsvere, Gulsvere with a tackle attempt but Amdovek worms out of it, and he passes to Sarnem Sarkpin who is open along the perimeter. Sarkpin charges into SVU's circle but he's stopped by Lor the Inbred with a crossdive for Lor's 19th kill and--WOW! There was just a titanic collision in the backfield away from the play! It appears to be Trog Thogmore, G'Rond Thalberost and one Arankeep player is on the ground... It looks like Branth Perlegi on the ground, and there is so far no movement. [The crowd gets loud and chaotic.] [Replay of the collision.] Ned: It looks to me like Thogmore and Thalberost were chasing Perlegi around midfield after Sarkpin gained possession, and they ended up sandwiching him in the backfield. That was absolutely intentional, Dorn, possibly in retribution of Dalt the Common's injury. Dorn: Most likely, Ned. The Arankeep trainers are on the field this time and the official has come over... What's this? The official gives a thumbs-down to the scorekeeper... and the SVU point is taken from the board... That collision must've killed Arankeep hinterplodder Branth Perlegi. Arankeep and SVU are now back to a scoreless tie. [The crowd becomes nearly silent.] [Shows the replay of the collision again.] Ned: Yeah, there's no doubt about it in my mind. Perlegi is dead. I've had three men die at my hands on the grubball field and I can personally testify that no one ever plans to kill another player, because when it happens you just feel horrible. I think Thogmore and Thalberost intended to injure Perlegi, certainly, but I know they must have butterflies knowing that they just killed a man. DA: "Some sad, sad news for the Arankeep team, just
when they looked like they were starting to turn the season around.
Westin, this...this is just devastating to a team. How can they come back
from something like this?"
WT: "It's hard, very hard, but not
monumental. Ned the Honorable said it himself, 'No one ever plans to kill
another player.' Now, you have two tough backfieldsmen that are left with
that burden. Yes, it is part of the game, but we're all human, races
aside. It could be equally as tough for Trog and G'Rond to come back from
this as it is for the Keepers to come out onto the field once again. Words
cannot aptly express the feelings that are going through the minds of those men
at this moment."
DA: "Branth Perlegi played seven seasons in the
AGL, with Tralazir and most recently in Arankeep. This was his 8th
season. In all, he played in 149 games. In those games he had 37
points and 126 kills. This year was looking to be a breakout year for
Perlegi in the kills category. Our hearts and thoughts go out to the
Perlegi family at this time. Branth Perlegi, dead at 29. Burial
services for Branth Perlegi are to be held at Lysira Field in Arankeep on
Wednesday at 1pm.
DA: "News of this has already spread throughout the
league about the death of Perlegi though no players were able to be reached for
comment. The President of the AGL was contacted and had this to say, 'The
entirety of the Arangoth Grubball League is deeply saddened by the loss of such
a player. Our sympathy goes out to the Perlegi family and friends.
In light of this, Wednesday's games will be postponed and rescheduled at a later
date.'
DA: "Westin, canceling the games on
Wednesday. Is this a good idea or a bad one on behalf of the
President?"
WT: "I think that it
is a good thing. Granted, the best thing for players is to get back onto
the field and play on, but we all know that there are at least two teams that
will not be fully into the game. This is a good move by the President and
one that should be applauded."
DA: "Indeed, it is that. This will give the
players a chance to spend time with their own families, though it's a terrible
thing when it takes something this tragic to bring about such. For one
day, the AGL will be halted, in an...in an...expression of honor and reverence
towards Branth Perlegi.
DA: "We leave you tonight, with a recap of the
day's scores. For Westin Tarbral, I am Dern Arnak bidding you all a
pleasant and safe evening. Good night, folks."
