"F@{k. F@{k. F@{k." - Rue, upon initially reading Carine's note.
~I just needed to do something I dont expect to be gone any longer than
three to four days.~
It was nearly dawn of the third day since Carine had gone off. Rue sat at
his usual corner spot in the Hart, a single torch lantern lighting the table
as he gazed down at the etched words she'd inked. His fury at her stubborn,
foolish behavior had abated. He knew her too well. Knew she couldn't wait
for anything. Knew she was much like his true sister in that sense.
Sleep escaped him nearly as easily as the scum he hunted. The undercover
operation to dismantle the Wyvern Raiders was nearly out of funds and a
report was due in order to receive more. The Gryphons were splintered across
the countryside on separate missions. Rue hadn't been able to share with
them the new knowledge he had. And what did he have to report? Not much was
an understatement. It seemed to Rue that he could not rationalize why the
operation should continue.
And Rue wasn't sure he had the heart to try. For the moment, his vengeful
drive lay dormant beneath his opium-addicted heart. Since he'd buried that
last informant supplied by The Cat's Den, he felt himself more than somewhat
lost. Leytham...the name stuck in his throat even though he felt justified
knowing the man had taken part in the raid on the inn.
Reaching for the quill and dragging its tip against the ink well before
reaching for the parchment, Rue then scrawled each letter -very- carefully:
~FUture raid
stone skiN
lorD galenSfire's maNor and mErchant buildings
overhEarD blasting stonE
Defiling mage in the mysthaven sect~
Sanding the parchment, Rue set it aside to dry and placed a small card with
a black gryphon in fighting stance with it.
Then Rue frowned as Carine's words stared up at him. ~I wont do anything
stupid I am just going to check out the trail to the ruins and see what
information I can attain. I will stay out of them until Hawk and I can go
together.~
He would head out after her himself just as soon as he delivered these.
Likely a half day's hard ride before he could even begin to head out on the
Ruins' trail. And he shuddered at the thought of spending a night where he'd
banished the kindred Katarina.
He folded Carine's note with a map of the Ruins and addressed the entire lot
to "Hawk," tucking in another of those small cards with a black gryphon in
fighting stance. Upon the back, he scrawled: ~Sithin flies alone - must find
her~. He felt better leaving word with the Alesian mage; hopefully the man
had not felt a pang of homesickness and vacated the Isles.
~*~
Rue delivered both sealed parchments into Lilla's hands. He set down 15 gold
and asked her to hold them close to her as a favor to him.
The one marked "Hawk" should be delivered when a tall Alesian asked for it
by name.
The other, marked "Old Blue Eyes" should be held until a private elven
courier collected the note later that day and delivered it to a pre-arranged
destination in MystHaven city.
