<taken from RP log> Dawn's Grove Late Night
Kylie had been home barely an hour's burn of candle and she couldn't sleep, despite being escorted home by the grey-skinned mage from the inn. Restless and attributing that to two things, the hunter's moon and the unpleasant exchange with the kindred soul earlier in the evening, the true essence* wolf swung from the bed and padded out of the bedroom to look in on her daughter Emma. The pack had become used to their friend leaving at sunrise and usually slept near by. Even on this night Myles stayed in the woods near to Kylie's home, he followed her sent in the form of a wolf, and watched her in human form walk home. Sleeping the sleep of the dead in the woods outside her home he waited to be found, or would he find her again? Kylie watched the moonlight fall on her daughter's features and she reached into the crib to stroke her fingertips across Emma's fine golden honey hair. She felt so blessed, and so long ago was that curse. Sephyr and his demon-possessed soul and the innocent baby boy she'd conceived through such maligned relations. And the kindred who had taunted her all about her ordeal and the impending death of her son. She pulled away from her daughter and went downstairs. Such thoughts should not cloud her daughter's room, nor her heart. Opening the door, she went out onto the porch and sat upon the swing. Myles Kalley could sense her beating heart even from this far, and he knew she could not sleep. He berated himself he was doing what he swore he would never do. He wished to not be evil, but how could he not he was made from evil. Slowly he rose from the depths of his slumber, and upon solid ground once more he squated on one knee looking in the direction of her house. With eyes that gleamed eerie red he looked at her from afar. His pack slept nearby so he stayed quiet as to not awake them. He took the chance of glancing at the moon to see how long he had before he must sleep for good, he had time and so his eyes went back to the direction of the house, and he waited. Kylie 's hair bristled against her neck and she stood up shortly after she'd sat down. He'd followed her here. To her home! She breathed out harshly. She spoke to the wolves, who accompanied him, whispering in their language, ~Why do you stay with him? Why do you make a half-human your leader?~ She gripped the railing and looked out into the fields. The pack started to stir, the wolves yipping and howling in return to Kylie's words, ~he is our friend,~ is what she can make out from their banter. Kylie frowned, they must sense she's also a wolf, for her spirit is true, not tainted by evil. ~Then leave...you are on my territory...you knew that when you passed the scent markings...go in peace brothers and sisters...~ She tilted back her head and howled in reply, her nightgown clinging against her silloutte. The wolves yipped and howled in reply, and being in wolf form he understood what they said, so in their tongue he bid them to leave, and he would catch up before sun up, and with reluctance they left him slowly at first, but faster as he showed them he meant it. Quickly the howls abated as the pack left her land, all but one. Quelling the glow of his eyes he slowly padded through the woods to get ever closer to her, he could sense her anger with him, but still he slowly approached. Kylie felt the wolves leaving and she sighed. She would have really liked to welcome them but could not with a kindred soul among them. How long it'd been since she hunted with a pack. It pulled at her almost painfully. Still his presence existed, ~And you as well kindred. Respect my property. You're not welcome here.~ She closed her eyes and summoned her inner strength. Myles padded into the clearing and sat looking at Kylie, he let out a long lonesome howl, which after a few minutes was responded too in kind by his pack that travelled away. He didn't respond to her except for the wordless howl. Kylie growled beneath her breath and eyed the creature. ~WHY do you trail me? This is my land. Leave.~ Nothing pure about him, all evil and possessed. She felt the chill run up her back. ~What do you want?~ Before her very eyes he slowly shimmers into that of a man squatted down to one knee. Looking at the ground he reaches down and grasps at some dirt letting it sift thru his hand. "I come because I am curious as to your fear, and because of my curiousness of you." and with that he slowly stood. Kylie backed up and drew her dagger for good measure, though she had never been able to defend herself against Aeren as he'd charmed her in a way she could not quite fight. But now she was on edge, her wolf instincts sharp. "My fear exists to protect my family, and your curiousness means you've never met a True Essence before." She spoke aloud. The two Sesar Vale moorhounds that were in the house could be heard at the closed door, sniffing and whimpering. She spoke to them in silence to calm them. "I mean you nor your family any harm, and I do not normally do this, but I have not talked to anyone in so long other than....." he couldn't finish what he was about to say he knew that assuring someone that their soul would be free when he killed them even if they where criminal did no good in saying he wasn't evil. He held out his arms to show that the only weapon he had was an ornate dagger at his hip and it was secured into its binding. Kylie shook her head, knowing a kindred needed no man-made weapon to kill. "I ask you to leave once more. I cannot offer you anything. My past with kindred has been too painful to be trusting. A wolf learns quickly, as you must know." "But I am not like other kindred, and I am even hunted by some of my own for I killed my creator, and I don't glorify in the means of our living. What happened to you I regret because I am not that way." He lowered his arms and his head at the same time waiting for a reply if she spoke again of him to leave. Kylie shivered as she felt the dogs behind the door whimpering again. They longed to be there with her, sensed her agitiation. Soon her daughter would wake. And she couldn't expose her to this. She swallowed and looked at him as she gripped the dagger. "Perhaps some day, in a neutral place, we can speak....but not here and not now. I have suffered too much and lost too much. And you show me nothing but disrespect to dare to come here. If you want someone to talk to, this isn't the way to do it. Nor was your approach in the inn earlier tonight. I wont let you feed upon my fear." She felt her heart pounding rapidly. "Then I beg your forgiveness and bid you farewell. I will not bother you anymore this night, you have my token of faith, and I know if you truly want you can find me." and with that his eyes began to glow that eerie red again as he slowly turned his cloak billowing out behind him and without concern he walked slowly back into the woods. He wished her no harm and hoped she could sleep the night. In her mind he spoke ~I'll say a prayer for your child I know your fear is strong and I am sorry,~ and he continued his slow journey to his friends, the only ones he knew he had since that fateful night. Kylie lifted her upper lip and tasted the night air. So many replies passed through her mind that she did not wish to say. But he didn't seem as powerful as had been the prince Aeren or had elected not to read her mind. She watched his form move away, not moving an inch as she stood. Prayers from the evil ones, she could do without. She softly offered a thanks to the goddess Chauntea and the other gods who stood watch over her and her family. She'd been so civil in her response to him; she really has grown more human over time. Frowning on this new thought, she waited long moments to move back into the house. ----- *True Essence wolves as Ive imagined Kylie and her mother, are essentially born natural wolves, with two exceptional gifts from the goddess Chauntea: 1. At a certain age they can shift into any natural shape, and often they choose one in particular and shift from their natural form of wolf into whatever else they prefer. 2. Theyre able to pass their genes predominantly. In other words, despite a mother who is TE and a father who is human, Kylie has full TE traits. This isnt always the case, theres exceptions, as yet to be explored with Kylies daughter. Because theyre born as natural wolves, they tend to dislike any other hybrids of wolves, and in fact, long ago battles existed between TEs and weres. Those were ancient times; Kylie tries hard to fight that stereotype now but it lingers. Her own personal dislike of kindred, simply runs strong from past experiences. -- To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives & Other DMI Lists: http://islesofmyst.com/lists.php3
