Bob, The last time I saw anything near this was when a band switch wafer was not registering properly on the shaft due to wear. It was making two pads simultaneously and BAM. However, it was just one resistor. I wonder if a tube had a major short somewhere???
I have also seen a smoked resistor due to the on-board lytic can having a bad cap inside.
