I think the best Drake receiver for AM is the R4B.  It's got the sensitivity and the selectivity already built in, ideal for AM.  The R4C is good, too, though you need to add the optional 6 or 8 kc filter for best results.  Just mu .02 worth....   73, Ed NI6S
