Thanks y'all for all the good leads to follow up on. Don't have ready 
answers to some of the questions, but will check it out this weekend. FYI: 
the headphones in question are 600 ohm impedance models, 20-18K response:
http://universal-radio.com/catalog/head/0682.html They are typically great 
low-level noise reducers.

Will report back if I find anything interesting. I do believe this is not 
the "normal" hum, however, that one poster referred to. It's pretty 
prominent and I think if I listened closer to the speakers (which are in 
the ceiling) I'd hear it there, too. Don't recall my TR7 ever having a hum 
like this.
