The PTO bulb IS supposed to be lit, but some seem to think it generates too much heat near the PTO. Never noticed the problem myself, and I use mine for PSK-31.
Anyway, it's a #53, round bulb, 14V. You have to pull out the DR-7 board to get to the bulb. Not particularly hard to do the second or third time, but the first time is an experience! There are several groups of connectors, (just very long pins that are unsupported,) that hold the board in. There is (or should be) one screw left of center that must be removed. The cable connectors are marked with a paint dot, and the coax connectors are all made to just reach. But make a sketch anyway the first time. The connectors are 9 pins at the rear edge, 12 pins at the left and a couple of groups of three. Start at the back edge and lift a little. There will be a LOT of resistance. Just try to work your way from group to group and coax it out. The back edge comes out first, and the LED displays fit into a little "pocket" in the front panel, so lift up the back and when the pins clear pull it towards the rear of the radio. A length of coathanger wire can be formed into a "card puller" similar to what Drake provided with the radio, with just a little "foot" bent at the end to hold under the board.
While you have it out, reflow the solder on all the long connector pins. The most common failure in this board is cracked solder on those pins. Visually make sure the pins are all straight and even before reinstalling.
Replacement is just the opposite, get comfortable and gently insert the display into the "pocket" and lower the rear of the board while watching through the various holes to be sure that the pins line up correctly. It will go down smoothly as long as all the pins are in the sockets.
The second time is a LOT easier! :-)

OK I need to know if the PTO lamp should be illuminated on the analogue dial, the rig has the DR7 display, and is there a lamp for the band switch? The schematic I have shows DS1 and DS5 as the two lamps in question. If so, how much of a chore is it to change them? Thanks,
