I have used the TR7 and the R7a as IF to 144 MHz for many years, primarily for EME and MS work. The only disadvantage is that the TR7 does not have a low level RF output on the TX side that disables the PA. To solve that you have to add a relay or diode switch prior to the PA unit, and bring the RF to the cinch plug "spare". I have used the curious "store" button to activate a small relay that switches the RF signal to the cinch terminal instead of the PA. Works! The receiver is excellent for VHF work, a very low noise floor and very fine IMD-values. The PTO hase to be kept on a while to be stable enough for EME work, or have a look at PA0CMU's page for a good frequency-stabiliser. Have fun!
