WINMAIL.DAT is an attachment that a Microsoft mail client attaches to an
outgoing email. It is only visible when the recipient email client is not
capable of rendering Microsoft Rich Text Format (RTF) data. The file contains
RTF information, typically font names, styles, sizes, etc. To a MS mail client
it appears as a 'fancy' looking email -- not plain text. To non-MS mail
clients it will appear as a binary or UUENCODED file attachment.

I don't know of any exploits using WINMAIL.DAT but since I run Solaris I don't
really pay attention to Windows exploits..

BTW, the sender of these emails can *prevent* this from happening by finding
and unchecking the option that is usually named something like: "Always Send To
This Recipient In Rich Text Format".
