I have successfully done the Prather mod to add 0 to 0.5 mHz, 0.5 to 1 mHz,
and 1 to 1.5 mHz. I used the FAR Circuits board and made several parts
substitutions as many of the original parts listed in the article are
no-longer available. For example the relays I used were Teledyne 172D-12
because that's what I had. Fortunately they have wire leads which could be
routed to the proper holes on the PC board. I also added the diodes to add
those bands. It works great but I sure could have used an updated board
layout.

Hello Lee.

The Communications Quarterly article reprint is at the Drake Museum at
http://www.dproducts.be/Drake_Museum/images/tr7art.pdf

It takes a while to load.

This is the link to the mods and corrections to the above article:
http://www.dproducts.be/Drake_Museum/tr-7mods.htm
If you find a source for the MA4P4002D let me know as I am still looking for
one. I did get the MA4P4002B which will work without problems if you do not
run RTTY and other full duty cycle modes. I got the MA4P4002B from
Richardson Electronics ( http://www.rell.com/ ) for about $7 if memory
serves me.

In the above mods page, Scott Prather mentions an EAC relay that Digikey
sells that will work with a coule of wiring changes or N0SS laid out another
QSK pc board for me that will take the EAC relay. I have been unable to
find a reasonable source for the Magnecraft W104MIP42 relay but did find
several sources--the cheapest was $38! The EAC relay from Digikey was in
the $7 USD range.

I got the RSD-12 relays from Richard AG6K ( main page at
http://www.somis.org/ ). He bought many when Aromat informed him that they
were discontinuing that relay so that one is available.

Also the Communications Quarterly article appears in John Lougmiller (KB9AT)
excellent book "The R.L. Drake Story -- A Family Affair" available from
Universal Radio and Amazon. The article appears a little different in the
book because Scott Prather re-drew the schematics so that they are easier to
follow.

The PC boards for the Scott Prather mods outlined in the Summer 92
Communications Quarterly article are available from FAR circuits.

I know you will like the TR7. It is and was a great radio.

Good luck.

Jim Pruitt
