"VE3AX" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi all:
I had a chance to see Mike's production board yesterday during a visit with Jeff Covelli, WA8SAJ. Lee, W0VT, had already clued me in there were some changes in markings from the prototype board to the production board. Without a great deal of study, which will come whan my boards arrive, I can offer these changes for those who want to get started:
The "RED 2" referred to in the instructions is now just marked "RED" on the production board. The LONG red wire from the transformer goes to the hole now marked "RED". The SHORT red wire from the transformer still goes to "RED 1". "Red 1" is still "Red 1".
The small red wire attached to "right terminal of under chassis terminal strip" to the new HV board at "R 11- Pin 6 pad at R8/C10" should just now read something like "one of the small holes between where it says R-11 Pin 6 on the board and R-8". There are several holes in the board at this point but you can see underneath that they are all on the same pad. Pick any suitable hole to install that end of the small red wire. The production board does not have a C10 marked in that area. I'll redo this part when I get my own boards so I can spend some time figuring out how best to word the instructions.
Once again I can't tell you too much to be very careful around high voltages. Don't try this upgrade unless you are comfortable working around high voltage power supplies, or let a friend do it for you who IS comfortable. Failing that, Jeff Covelli will do yours for a reasonable fee. I also highly recommend bringing it up slowly on a VARIAC after doing the mods. You might have to temporarily re-wire your supply for 110 VAC to do that - depending of course on your Variac. Remember you have to change the wiring in BOTH the RF deck AND the power supply
