Nope, definitely not a sub. There are four versions of the R-4C. The earlier versions used the 6HS6, later used the 6EJ7. Unfortunately the 6HS6 is quite expensive these days, $10-12 and up from the tube vendors.

Hello, I was retubing my R4C and ordered tubes based on what I saw in the manual. When I went to change three of the tubes, where there were supposed to be three 6EJ7's (9 pin) there are three 6HS6's ( 7 pin). I'm not familiar with tube substitutions. Do you think the 6HS6's are proper substitutes for the 6EJ7's and was this a possible mod? Thanks Randy/KC2LLV.
