Larry Clark <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi,
I recently acquired a "B" line from an estate. Under 20 years of accumulated dust I found a very nice R-4B and T-4XB. The R-4B fired right up after a good cleaning. T-4XB, while cosmetically very nice after applying some elbow grease, won't transmit. Here's what happens. Upon applying power, the transmit relay pulls in as soon as the tubes begin to conduct, and bias appears on the meter. This occurs even with the function switch in SSB. The relay, of course, should not close until the function switch is moved to "tune." At first I suspected VOX tube (6EV7, V10) was bad, but substituting the tube with a known good tube yielded the same results. No tweaking of the VOX delay, sensitivity or anti-VOX pots caused any discernable effect. Yanking V-10 does allow the relay to drop open (and the bias goes away). When I switch to the "tune" position...nothing. The relay stays closed and bias remains. Advancing the gain control again does nothing, no plate current, other than the bias. The condition is identical when set up to transmit CW and a key inserted in the key jack. Still no drive with the key closed. All other tubes test out hunky-dory in my Sencore tube tester. I also tried two different AC-4's just for grins, both work fine on my other rigs. Can someone give me some possibilties to check here? 73, Larry, K0RS __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
