My advice would be, don't do it! Especially if you have a 2-BQ and/or 2-AC installed. I have seen too many receivers with melted and discolored dials and deformed S-Meter cases from using #44 bulbs in place of #47. It may not seem like much of a difference, but the #44 definitely runs hotter.
Actually, I switched over to 755 bulbs in all my Drake gear. They're not only cooler running, reducing the fading of dial "blues" in the 4 Lines, they also have a 10X longer average life than the #47.
