OK. Well that side switch has snookered a lot of people! Some units
have a small piece of aluminum mounted under the cabinet screw and had a
"finger" that engages the switch, keeping it in the "right" position. I
think these were "aftermarket" solutions, since the few that I have seen
have been different shapes!! :-)
There is a "piece of wire" fuse, about an inch long, for the filament
circuit mounted in the same area of the chassis. The #12 is a spherical
bulb with two parallel pins that plugs into a small socket that is
mounted on the relay board. Earlier units had the bulb mounted inside
the final compartment, accessible through the top cover of the PA section.
Just a thought, but keep in mind that many generators are calibrated
such that when the receiver under test is set up with a 50 ohm
termination at the input (essentially in parallel with the *50 ohm*
receiver input) that the receiver only sees 1/2 the voltage read on the
signal generator meter. If your generator is calibrated in this way,
your measurements would be more typical.
Drake typically used 50 uV for S-9, but the TR-4 manual doesn't
specifically say so. Again, the numbers would only be off by about 3 dB
under the conditions described in the previous paragraph.
Your transmitter output problem is interesting, since you have
reasonable output power on ONE band. Output is typically:
80M - 200W Output
40M - 200W
20M - 200W
15M - 175W
10M - 150W
I just don't have enough experience with the TR series to be able to
"remotely" diagnose this part. I would start by seeing if you have more
output on SSB (if perhaps the CW shift relay isn't closing or not
shifting the carrier far enough into the filter passband), V4 Mixer or
V15 Xmit IF tubes and/or associated IFTs, or V6 and band associated RF
coils.
