When I commented on my new Misty Hollow VFO a few weeks back, comments
on possible signal degradation due to the DDS chip used caused me to
listen to my signal on another receiver. That led to my key click saga,
which got me distracted from the VFO situation for a while. So -
lacking a spectrum analyzer - I'm not sure how the potentially dirty
signal from the VFO would manifest itself.
Are we talking about problems with spurs that aren't far enough down in
amplitude, or phase noise close to the carrier, or what? I can hear no
difference between the TR7's PTO and the DDS VFO when it comes to close
in noise on receive on a band crowded with strong CW signals. I could
check for spurs using a separate receiver while operating the TR7 into a
dummy load, or driving the amp into a dummy load. My knowledge of the
DDS shortcomings is very small, so any ideas here would be appreciated.
