Further to my note the other day re. substituting a good 12BA6 tube for a weak 12BZ6 in my R-4 receiver, one must be cognizant of the highlighted provisio in the Tube Substitution Manual, i.e. "...May not work in all circuits"... If you take a look at the base diagrams for both tubes --- pins 2, and 7 --- it is readily apparent that the suppressor grid & the cathode are transposed in both: while the 12BA6 DOES work as a remedial "fix" in the RF amplifier stage of the R-4, it would not, in all liklihood, do the same if one was to replace the 12BZ6 in the crystal calibrator with one. "...Caveat emptor" applies!
