OK, gang - here's a report on the batch of meters for the Drake wattmeters, MN4's and so forth that K5JG (Jim Gerke) recently purchased and offered here. I recently destroyed the face and movement on my MN4 and bought one from Jim - he operates out of www.hamspec.us
Anyway, it came a while back, extremely well packaged and wrapped, BTW. I experimented with some cheap Chinese enamel spray paint on the old meter face and some old CD cases to make the bottom half of the new, clear face into a black one. I went for the $.97 can instead of the $3.97 Krylon. Even though I shook it up like crazy, it didn't dry well. I will never buy the cheap stuff again - I finally figured out how to keep the paint from bleeding under the tape, and did a pretty good job on the new meter face. I used magic mending tape instead of masking tape because it gave a much sharper line. The cheap paint kind of thinned out in places, like it didn't take to the surface too well (remember, use the Krylon), but it was just around the inside edges, and a little black permanent marker on the outside keeps the light from showing through, and now you can't tell my MN4 was ever damaged at all. The meter is a perfect replacement! Anyone with a need for one of these meters should pick one up - the price is way below anything I found, and his shipping is reasonable as well. 73 to all Terry K7WLD
