Yep! It may be my older ears, but I sure like to listen to the drakes and other tube radios better than the new stock. Working on them? Like Lee said "I don't think so". or at least in a limited way.
Fella's I believe our technology has taken SSB and CW radio modes to about its limits. Fortunately for us Drake & Collins collectors and operators, we have some of the best equipment made or likely "will be made". We are only a few bells and whistles from the top of the heap. The Sherwood R4C is working proof. Congrats' to any ham that can bring back one of these jewels from the dead !! I think my TR4C and other tube gear will be with me as long as I live. AND compared to the new stuff Terry, I have the Drake C line and the Collins S line right next to a state of the art Ten-Tec Orion II (one hell of a radio!) and in general (not contesting on a crowded band etc) the OLD BOYS hear just about as well, and a pleasure to operate... Actually I think the Sherwood R4C hears as well as the OII. Don't get me wrong... I still like using the OII but, WOW these OLD BOYS do pretty darn well. Oh one more thing... I don't think if the OII developes a problem I will be working on it. Hi Hi 73, Lee ************** Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home.
